Why You Must Watch Kashmir Files!

So I finally gathered courage to watch #TheKashmirFiles yesterday. This post might be something some of you may not agree with so please scroll away, I do not wish to engage in a debate. Also, there may be spoilers so if you haven't watched, you've been warned.

How I felt after the film ended - I went from being numb for a while, to feeling a pain in my heart and then anger seeped in, and that is when I wrote this.

I have heard many personal accounts of the genocide and exodus in various clubhouse rooms from Kashmiri Hindus who are currently living in exile in different parts of the world. They have been raising their voice for a very long time but like MithunDa (who plays Brahm Dutt) says, sunne wala koi ho tab na (only if there was someone who would listen).

I have heard these Kashmiri Hindus recount things so heart wrenching - fathers would rather burn their daughters than have them tortured and killed at the hands of terrorists, that they slept with kerosene cans near them so they could burn themselves rather than get r@ped and murdered by those 'minorities' - imagine what they must have gone through to decide to do this.

This is one movie that speaks the truth as is - that which you wouldn't have read in textbooks, that brutal murderer would have probably been romanticised by Bollywood.

Hindus have been subjected to massacre after massacre, genocide after genocide over centuries. The ultimatum given was same as what Kashmiri Hindus got on 19th Jan 1990 - convert or die.

They'd cut the janeu/poonal/sacred thread, cut the shikha/tuft, this happens till date. Why, even Lavanya had to convert or die!

Be it the Goan Inquisition, be it the Moplah massacre, be it the Mandyam/Melkote Iyengars massacre - it was all the same, convert or die! I have named only a few of these horrific incidents here. There are many more - Bengal Hindu genocide, massacre during partition, Chitpavan Brahmins massacre after Gandhi assassination, Dogra massacre,  turn any page of history, there's always been a massacre of Hindus.

Anupam Kher who plays PushkarNath Pundit says this dialogue in the film to his news reporter friend - even spreading fake news is ok but covering up a truth is a big sin. That is exactly what happened on and after 19.01.1990. Just because it didn't make it to the news and you didn't know, it doesn't mean it never happened. There are people who live to tell the tale and #TheKashmirFiles does just that - plain unfiltered truth.

Every Indian has to watch it. I see some ppl make fun saying telecast it on TV - FYI, it's an A rated film and very raw. Those scenes have to be there, they cannot be cut and censored. When you can watch a Bollywood movie that glorifies a pimp and an underworld Don, why not watch this?

If you want to live like an ostrich, go ahead, but you've already been warned. Watch, internalise and never forget the lessons. Narrate your history to your next generation. They need to know.

Every bullet piercing the characters in the film hits you hard, leaving you numb and speechless.

Remember Dharma and Desha always come first. Kashmir is our Bharat's crown. It is the seat of knowledge, a civilisational centre, you also have Kashmiri shaivism. Mother Goddess has a name, Kashmirapuravasini meaning one who resides in Kashmir, the land of Rishi Kashyap. What more proof do you want that Kashmir hai to Bharat hai - there is no Bharat without Kashmir. If you are a Hindu today, thank your ancestors.
